The StewMac SM0673 String Spacing Ruler is an indispensable tool for any instrument builder or technician who wants to quickly and accurately mark string positions without complicated calculations. This stainless steel ruler with laser-etched slots provides proportional string spacing that takes string gauge into account—so thicker bass strings don't sit too close together, maintaining optimal playability.
The ruler is flexible and suitable for both flat and curved surfaces. By simply marking the positions of the outer strings and sliding the ruler on the instrument until the slots align, you can instantly mark all the string positions with a scriber or pencil. This ruler is ideal for marking nut slots, bridge saddles, peg holes, and more – for guitars, mandolins, banjos, and violins.
